Do you want to switch from the Mailchimp to Ecomail mailing platform and want to know how to transfer your contacts?

This is not a complicated process and we will show you how to do it in this guide.

First of all, it is necessary to export the contact database from Mailchimp and then upload it to the Ecomail application.

1. Export contacts from Mailchimp

Log in to your Mailchimp account, click Audiences and select All Contacts from the menu:

You will then see your contact list.

Note: If you have more than one contact list, click Current audience and select the audience you want to work with.

Next, click Edit Segment.

Now select and check which contacts you want to export and then import into Ecomail.

We recommend checking all options. Below we present the meaning of these segments as well as information on how to import them correctly into Ecomail.

After this selection, expand the Toggle Columns menu and choose which all fields (contact data) you want to export and click on Export Segment:

And it is done!

You will now see a page where you can download the finished export in csv format. This file will also be automatically sent to your email.

2. Import contacts into Ecomail

Depending on your audience, an exported file from Mailchimp can contain up to 4 csv files: subscribed, unsubscribed, non-subscribed, cleaned.

Also import unsubscribed and so-called reflected contacts from the list in Ecomail to prevent newsletters from being sent to contacts who have already unsubscribed from your newsletter or who have failed to deliver emails when sent via Mailchimp.

Mailchimp: Subscribed

What contacts are these? Contacts who want to receive your email marketing campaigns, ie active or login.

How to import into Ecomail? As subscribed contacts.

Mailchimp: Unsubscribed

What contacts are these? Unsubscribed contacts who no longer wish to receive your mailing.

How to import into Ecomail? As unsubscribed Contacts.

Mailchimp: Non-subscribed

What contacts are these? Contacts who did not subscribe to marketing emails, for example, did not complete the double opt-in process.

How to import into Ecomail? Do not import these contacts into Ecomail, as you do not have their consent to send business messages.

If these are contacts from orders, contact support at support@ecomail.app

Mailchimp: Cleaned

What contacts are these? The so-called bounce or returned addresses that for some reason (eg because they no longer exist) cannot receive email.

How to import into Ecomail? In Ecomail, find below and upload as Bounced.

You can find the instructions on how to import your database into Ecomail in this article >>

Templates and automated campaigns cannot be converted from Mailchimp due to differences in editors and application settings themselves. It is therefore necessary to create templates and automated campaigns directly in our application.

However, you can use the Custom Migration package, and we will be happy to set everything up for you.
