Google Consent V2 enables websites to communicate user preferences regarding cookie consent to Google effectively.
Google Consent V2 is an update to the original version 1 - it is an updated version of the original consent setup. It differs by introducing two additional parameters (ad_user_data and ad_personalization) to Google's consent mode API*.
*consent mode = the site visitor's choice of how to treat their web movement data
In Ecomail, you can track user movement on your site using a tracking code that can now be modified with an additional parameter compatible with Google Consent V2 (Consent Mode V2).
💡 The parameter will react to an existing cookie (or consent) bar on your website (which must be compatible with Consent Mode V2).
👉 This integration is only available to you on the Marketer+ plan.
In other cases, the tracking code needs to be placed in the site code so that it is present on all pages where customer tracking should occur. If you are new to tracking, you can follow this guide. You can also use the Google Tag Manager implementation.
You can add a parameter that responds to Consent Mode V2 to the existing tracking code that can be retrieved from the application (Account Management → For Developers) by checking the checkbox.
This is what the embedded tracking code with the parameter for Consent Mode V2 looks like on the web:
The displayed parameter will respond to the visitor's choice in the cookie (consent) bar on the site - which of course must be compatible with Consent Mode V2.
This means that data about the visitor's movement on the site (page visit, abandoned cart, etc.) will only be sent when the visitor consents to the cookie (consent) bar on the site, specifically if they consent to everything or do not uncheck tracking for marketing purposes.
