Increase your account security and protect your data by activating two-factor authentication (2FA) in your account settings. It will also keep your data and account safe from possible theft or hacker attacks.

Within Ecomail, you can set up authentication through your email or by using one of the security applications, such as Google Authenticator.

1. What is two-factor authentication, and why set it up?

Two-factor or also two-factor authentication (2FA) is a method by which a user can securely log in to their account by providing two proofs (factors) to confirm their identity during authentication.

Double authentication in this case consists of entering your login name and password and entering a code sent in an email or displayed in an authentication application.

Benefits of two-step verification

Most online services only use a single sign-on system where the user only needs a username and password to enter the system. The advantage of having two-factor authentication active is that if someone steals your login credentials, it doesn't automatically mean that they will be able to get into your account. They would also have to gain access to your email (or phone or authentication app), which is used to authenticate to your account during 2FA.

2. Setting up two-factor authentication for the Ecomail account

Two-factor authentication can be found under Account Management → Account Security and Localization → Two-factor authentication.

I. Setting up email authentication

If you choose email authentication, the application will prompt you to enter the code from your email (this is the same email you use to log in to Ecomail) every time you log in.

This is a transactional email that will be delivered to you from the Ecomail domain

Copy and paste the sent code into the login window. If the code is entered correctly, you will be logged into the application. 👍

II. Setting up authentication through the authentication application

To use the authentication application, select the second option and click on the "Activate two-factor authentication" button:

A pop-up window will open in the application with information on how to set up this type of authentication. Download an authentication app (e.g. Google Authenticator)/or open an existing one on your phone and scan the QR code provided.

The app will then create a temporary six-digit numeric code that you need to enter in the "Enter code" section. Inserting the code from the app will activate double verification via this app.

So, every time you log in, you need to have your mobile phone with this app handy, which will generate a temporary code each time that you use to log into your Ecomail account.

Please note: The code is always valid for a few seconds. Always copy the code that is currently displayed in the app. When it expires, it will be generated, and you must enter a new code to log in.

3. Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

Do I need to enable two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication is optional, though recommended for your safety and the security of your data. You can deactivate it at any time in your account.

How can I deactivate two-factor authentication security in my Ecomail account?

Simply log into your account and under Account Management -> Settings -> Two-Factor Authentication deactivate the Use Two-Factor Authentication option.

Will I have to confirm my Ecomail login with a code or in the authentication app every time I want to log in?

Yes, validation is required every time you log in for security reasons.

There are multiple users in our account. If I activate two-factor authentication for my email, will it be automatically triggered for all users?

No. Two-factor authentication is a feature in the account that each user in the account can (de)activate themselves. However, for better security of your data, we definitely recommend that everyone activates two-factor authentication.

I didn't receive an authentication code. What should I do?

If you did not receive your verification code, you can resend it. If you don't receive an email within a few minutes, please email support - we'll be happy to help you log in.

I have received the code, but I am unable to re-login to the app. How to proceed?

If your login credentials are repeatedly not working with two-factor authentication - please contact our support team to help you with this situation.

I believe there has been an unauthorized login to my account. What should I do?

If you believe someone is logging into your account unauthorized, change your app password immediately and set up two-factor authentication, which adds additional verification to the login process.
